There is magic in drinking a wine where it is made. As an awareness of place and seasonality contributes to our wine drinking pleasure, so it is with food. Carrick winery incorporates a cellar door and restaurant, (simply named Carrick), that overlooks the spectacular Bannockburn Inlet. The restaurant was opened in 2002 and has received many accolades. It is open daily for lunches and occasionally in the evening for special functions and by arrangement.
Our restaurant menus are created around fresh seasonal local produce and we are fortunate that we have access to some of New Zealand’s best game; exceptional fish and shell fish from our cold water southern seas; summer fruit, and local organic vegetables. Our chef uses these ingredients to make simple, healthy but sophisticated food, that, when matched with Carrick wines, provide a unique and authentic dining experience. For a more simple meal try our platters or treat yourself (as the Europeans do) to a special lunchtime dining experience, selecting small and large platters from our menu, spending the afternoon, eating, looking at the view and sharing a bottle of wine with friends.
If you wish to taste Carrick wines our knowledgeable staff will guide you.
The Winery Restaurant at Mt Difficulty provides a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy a delicious lunch. The kitchen is open, which offers a unique insight to a chef’s world.
On a fine day the outdoor terrace is the perfect spot to take in the flavours of the region while enjoying the uniquely Central Otago views. During winter the view can be enjoyed from behind glass, with fireplaces providing warmth and ambience.
The chef produces imaginative cuisine, and the menu showcases the freshest of produce, with a choice of substantial fare or platters to share. All main meal options come with suggested wine matches, though diners are welcome to make their own choices at our wine tasting counter.
HOURS We are open every day, with lunch served daily from 12 noon – 4 pm. Our full A La Carte Menu and platters are available until 3.30pm. A ‘platters only’ menu is available from 3.30 – 4 pm year round – except from Christmas until Easter, when platters are available in the summer sun until 4.30pm.
