We’re on a wonderful journey in the most spectacular part of New Zealand. When we started this adventure our objective was to create something really special and our motto was, and will always be, “no compromise.” Our sun drenched north-west facing terraces give us one of the warmest sites in the region with the slopes and gullies providing excellent cool air drainage minimizing any risk of frost.
Stretching from 210 to 350 metres above sea level, the plantings are predominantly on three levels of gently sloping terraces with just one steep face (the ‘ski slope’) where the rows run dramatically down to the lowest terrace poised just above Lake Dunstan.
Folding Hill was an easy place to fall in love with. We had looked at over 30 potential sites in Central Otago by the time we walked out onto a bare sheep paddock nestled on a northern terrace of Bendigo Creek in 2001. It was deepest winter, the sky was azure and cloudless , the Pisa range covered in fresh snow. We felt the magic of the place.

In August 2017, Nockies palette expanded upon its original vision by purchasing Georgetown Vineyard, where the award-winning Pinot Noir and Pinot Rose grapes were harvested, in Central Otago, New Zealand.
The Georgetown Vineyard is situated at the Cromwell end of the Kawarau Gorge and sits on the site of the historic Georgetown. Georgetown’s Pinot Noir has an international reputation as one of the finest red grape varieties. The traditional Red Burgundies have been joined by other outstanding examples from the USA and New Zealand in particular. However, the grape is also responsible for making delicious fresh and vibrant Pinot Rosé that provide the drinker with aromas of red berries, apples & peaches. The wines tend to be a bright pink when the colour is pronounced, more so than Rosés made from other varieties, and make for striking wines perfect for warm summer afternoons.

TARRAS VINEYARDS is located near the Central Otago town of Tarras. The home vineyard is called The Canyon, found high up on the terraces of the old goldfields at Bendigo in Central Otago. Established by Hayden Johnston in 2002, this organically managed vineyard consistently delivers outstanding expressions of great Pinot Noir with floral aromas, intense fruit, spicy and savoury notes, good natural acidity and impressive tannin profiles. They are distinctive, icon wines that age.
Since the first harvest in 2006, Tarras Vineyards has also made a name for delivering outstanding expressions of Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough. The style is not typical, not mainstream, with more complexity and a European subtlety wrapped up with an unmistakable Marlborough signature.
Sitting in prime location as the pioneer of Bendigo, our sun-drenched Quartz Reef Estate vineyard is BioGrow certified organic and Demeter certified biodynamic. Our grapes are hand-harvested and vinified with a respectful and non-interventive philosophy, combined with the vision of Rudi Bauer to express our sense of place.
