Folding Hill was an easy place to fall in love with. We had looked at over 30 potential sites in Central Otago by the time we walked out onto a bare sheep paddock nestled on a northern terrace of Bendigo Creek in 2001. It was deepest winter, the sky was azure and cloudless , the Pisa range covered in fresh snow. We felt the magic of the place.

Stewart Town Vineyard
When Bannockburn wife and husband Kerry Stainton-Herbert and Doug Herbert first stood on their rabbit and briar infested plot overlooking the historic ruins of the once flourishing Stewart Town gold mining settlement, they knew the land would produce fabulous Pinot Noir. The rest, as they say, is history, but of a different kind.
Desert Heart is about a love affair with Central Otago, this land of extraordinary contrasts and grandeur, a love of mysteries of wine and the passion for a challenge knowing the area was on the edge for the growing of grapes and wine making. A place that steals your heart.
It is in this alpine desert landscape that Desert Heart vineyards are nestled, at the base of Mt. Difficulty on Felton Road, in Bannockburn, Central Otago.
The Desert Heart exclusive range of premium wine is all about the sensual pleasures of life, the sounds, the smells, the flavours, the colours.
Our philosophy is to let the fruit speak for itself and in keeping with the romance inherent in our wine, we believe the wineshould express an approach to life, ensuring that what is captured in the bottle is not just processed grapes but a taste of “Desert Heart” and the culture and care that created it.
Desert Heart is where beautiful wines are created, with what is best for the land, the grape and the soul; for us, it is the relentless pursuit of creating great enjoyment, wrapped in mystery, with a touch of sensuality.
