Opening 25 October with a celebration in the Cromwell Heritage Precinct to welcome the first public riders.
Opening on October 25th, the new 36km Kawarau Gorge Trail will create an exciting connection between Cromwell and Gibbston, linking the Lake Dunstan Trail with the Queenstown Trails.
The trail winds through the spectacular Kawarau Gorge, with two swing bridges crossing the Kawarau River and impressive cantilevered sections built around the sheer gorge walls. It will offer a unique way to experience the dramatic landscapes of Central Otago.
Once complete, the trail will become part of a wider network of more than 560km of connected cycle trails across Otago, opening up even more opportunities to explore the region on two wheels.
And with the renowned wine regions of Bannockburn and Gibbston at either end, there are plenty of places to stop, relax and enjoy a local wine, meal or coffee along the way.
