History and Heritage

The Cromwell & Districts region in Central Otago offers fantastic cycling and biking opportunities, from scenic lakefront trails to rugged mountain tracks. Riders can explore the famous Lake Dunstan Trail, winding through dramatic gorges and vineyards, or tackle more challenging routes like those in the Bannockburn hills. With a mix of family-friendly paths and thrilling downhill runs, the region is a paradise for cyclists of all levels. The stunning landscapes, combined with a mild climate and great local cafés, make it a top destination for biking enthusiasts.

Cromwell Heritage Precinct

One of Cromwell’s best-kept secrets – a free visitor attraction that has something for the whole family. When the Clyde dam was completed in 1990, Cromwell’s main street disappeared under Lake Dunstan.

Cromwell Museum

The collections held represent the tangible heritage of Cromwell and the surrounding area and have been built up through the support and donations of the community over many years.

Goldfields Mining Centre

Tours of Goldfields provide visitors with an insight as to “how the gold was won”.
