Over 2 000 people joined in the festivities of the annual Cromwell Street Party and Fireworks event, held on Friday, 2 November. The Cromwell Heritage Precinct again provided the perfect backdrop for the event, with many of the shops staying open later to give visitors the opportunity to check out their wares.
“Like true Cromwellians, we weren’t deterred by the less-than-perfect weather,” says Janeen Wood, Chair of the Cromwell & Districts Promotion Group. “Everyone just rugged up and came on down for the party.”
Besides the many market stalls and food vendors, there was also plenty of entertainment to keep the party going well into the night. After a fitting welcome from The Cromwell College Kapa Haka Group, local dancers from the Cromwell School of Dance and the Goldfields Primary School Solid Gold Dancers strutted their stuff. They were followed by an awesome display by the Abigail Rose aerial performers, whereafter the show shifted to the stage where Gina Schmitz and the band Turtle Funk got the toes tapping.
The evening ended with a dazzling fireworks display over the Kawarau arm of Lake Dunstan.
“The Cromwell & Districts Promotion Group would like to thank the Cromwell Community Board for their contribution to the Street Party, as well as The Trusts Community Foundation and the Cromwell Town & Country Club for funding the fireworks,” says Janeen. “Another word of thanks needs to go to all the volunteers who helped before, during, and after the event. Your hard work made it possible!”
