Enjoy a week-long family getaway in beautiful Cromwell!
Day 1 Arrive in time for lunch at any of Cromwell's amazing cafés and restaurants before heading down to explore the Cromwell Heritage Precinct. While meandering through this living museum, keep an eye out for the fairy doors hidden all around! After spending the day exploring, end your first day with a hearty dinner at Five Stags. Day 2 Summer in Cromwell is all about spending time outside! Pack a picnic and find a spot next to the lake to soak up the sun while the kids splash away in the warm waters of Lake Dunstan. If the heat proves too much, treat yourself to a real fruit ice cream from Jackson's Orchard, and go on an informative orchard tour while you're there! Some orchards offer pick-your-own options during the summer months, so check them out if you really want to get amongst it. Day 3 Step back in time with a visit to the Goldfields Mining Centre. There, you'll learn all about how gold was discovered in Cromwell, and how it changed our landscape. Go on one of the guided tours, explore the Chinese mining village, and have a go at panning for gold yourself – who knows? You might get lucky! Cap your day with dinner at Amigos , and don't miss out on the tacos! Day 4 Take a day trip to Wānaka to see all the sights in our neighbouring town, only 40 minutes away via State Highway 6. Treat the kids to a mind-boggling morning at Puzzling World before heading to the lake for a play at the iconic dinosaur park. Of course, no trip to Wānaka would be complete without a photo of #ThatWanakaTree, so meander along the shore to get your snap. Day 5 Start your day off by challenging the family to a round or two of mini golf at Cromwell Mini Golf followed by a play in the park next door. Next, put on your walking shoes and go up the 45th Parallel Walk at Lowburn before hitting the Kiwi Water Park for a fun afternoon cool down. Day 6 Your Cromwell getaway ends on a high note with a visit to Highlands where you can have a go-cart race, check out all the awesome cars in their museum, or even go on a high-speed zip around the track in the Highlands Taxi. As you get ready to leave, make sure you stop at the fruit stalls along the way to get fruit, flowers, nuts and honey to take home with you.
