Another Summer Series done and dusted!

This summer nearly 1 000 athletes got into gear, strapped on their goggles, and laced up their trainers to compete in the 2018/19 Subway Cromwell Summer Series. Looking at the feedback from both participants and spectators, it is clear that this one was one for the books!

Shoutouts and thanks

A series like this doesn’t just happen – it takes a lot of planning and support to be successful. First and foremost, a great big THANK YOU to Subway Cromwell, our main sponsor for 2018/19. You went above and beyond in supporting us this season, and we look forward to working with you again.

We would also like to thank NZCT for your continued support for this series.

Thank you to our other naming sponsors: XS Storage, Henry’s Cromwell, and The Gate. Another thanks to our other sponsors: Space at the Base, Horleys, Camelbak, ThermaTech, Mainfreight, Highland Events, and The Crafty Weka Bar for your contributions!

Another “thank you” needs to go to all our volunteers who took the time to see to the nitty gritties on the day. Your help is invaluable.

And last but not least, a big thank you to Bill Godsall and Terry Davis, the superstar organisers behind the events. You are the reason the wheels keep on turning year after year!

More about the event

This series, running from October to January, comprises five events held in the beautiful Cromwell region.

The first event, the family-friendly Cromwell Half Marathon, 10k, and Teams Relay, took a record number of runners along the shores of Lake Dunstan and through the Heritage Precinct. This was followed by the Nevis Valley Gutbuster that truly lived up to its name this time around! The mountain bikers had to ford a few more streams than usual thanks to the unseasonal rains we had this season.

The Gutbuster was followed by the Bannockburn MTB Classic with its four different rides giving everyone a chance to get stuck in, and the Lake Dunstan Triathlon and Duathlon, this season also offering kayaking as an option. The series was rounded off by the Lake Dunstan Cycle Challenge – a spectacular 96 km sealed road circuit around the beautiful Lake Dunstan.
